On Saturday 10th December, 27 attended, we held a quiz and curry fundraising evening in the clubhouse with our resident quiz master Matt Stringer. The winning team was Mark & Fiona Wilkinson with two friends.
We now have a high-powered pressure washer, associated surface cleaner and equipment for spraying the courts with herbicides. Courts 1-6 have been pressure washed and sprayed with a herbicide by volunteers. This cleaning will be repeated each Spring and Autumn to maximise their life.
Approximately 70 members and their guests attended the Awards Evening held at Eastwood Park on 26th November. The evening included a meal, serious and fun awards and a disco where the young and the young at heart danced the night away. A big thank you to Linda, Gill & Sian for organising another great event. The new sewage treatment plant installation has been completed by Anderson Waste Management Ltd. and is fully functional. The installation went smoothly, although the weather could have been better. A revised Coaching Contract between TLTC and Taylor Tennis was signed 25th November 2016 and covers a 3 year period. This is an important step in the future development of the Club.
Defibrillator. A defibrillator has been installed by Thornbury Town Council on the Mundy Playing Field pavilion, about 100m from the Tennis Club. It is the nearest defibrillator to our Club. A TennisVets Tournament, organised by Steve Wells, raised £456 for Brain Tumour Support. A Charity Tournament was organised by Pam Forest, primarily for Club members. The event raised £500 for Cancer Research UK.
American Tournaments. A series of American Tournaments were scheduled for Saturday afternoons. These tournaments have been popular with those attending, but support has been mixed. Summer League. We entered a total of eleven teams in the Avon Summer League (5 ladies and 6 men’s). The teams ranged from the highly competitive to those gaining valuable experience.
