• When the stream adjacent to the Club is in full flow, there is some flooding in the grounds and on to the courts. This flood water was also undermining the foundations and floor of the clubhouse. A recent incident resulted from heavy rain on 21st November causing the stream to flow over the old bridge and onto court 1. Several actions have been undertaken to remedy this flooding:
• The bridge by the main entrance has been replaced incorporating two large diameter pipes which should ensure that the bridge is no longer a restriction.
• The boundary hedge behind courts 1-4 was reduced to allow access to the stream. Branches and brambles were removed and burnt on the Mundy Playing Fields courtesy of Thornbury Town Council.
• The stream behind courts 1-4 has been cleared by Club volunteers (and the boundary hedge cut back) to allow the stream water to flow away more easily.
• The neighbouring farmer has been persuaded to clear the downstream section of the stream allowing the water to flow freely away from the Club grounds.
• The total cost of this programme was £1500 plus 50 hours of volunteer effort.
